Hylo Gel (2 mg/mL) is a high-viscosity, preservative-free, and phosphate-free lubricating eye drop designed for the intensive therapeutic lubrication of severe and chronic dry eyes, as well as for supporting the healing process after eye surgeries.
Its active ingredient is 0.2% sodium hyaluronate (the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid), a natural substance that forms a stable, long-lasting moisturizing film on the surface of the eye to shield it from irritation.
How to Use & Administer
The drops use a specialized, airless multi-dose system (COMOD system) designed to keep the liquid sterile without preservatives.
-
Prepare: Remove the protective cap. Before the very first use, invert the bottle and press the base until the first drop appears.
-
Position: Invert the bottle. Hold it upside down with your thumb on the shoulder of the bottle and your other fingers on the base.
-
Apply: Tilt your head back slightly, support the holding hand with your free hand, and gently pull down your lower eyelid.
-
Trigger: Apply quick, strong pressure to the base to release exactly one drop into the pocket of the lower eyelid. Close your eye slowly to distribute the film evenly.
-
Close: Replace the cap immediately after use. Avoid letting the dropper tip touch your eye, fingers, or any other surface.
Dosage & Usage Guidelines
-
Standard Dosage: Typically 1 drop into each affected eye, 3 times daily. It can be used more frequently if needed.
-
Maximum Usage: If you find yourself needing to use the drops more than 10 times a day, or if your symptoms persist, consult an ophthalmologist or optometrist.
-
Spacing with Other Medications: If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 30 minutes between applications, and always administer Hylo Gel last. However, if you use eye ointments, the ointment must be applied after Hylo Gel.
Precautions & Side Effects
-
Temporary Blurry Vision: Due to its gel-like, high-viscosity consistency, these drops may cause mild, temporary blurring of your vision immediately after application. Do not drive or operate machinery until your vision completely clears.
-
Contact Lens Compatibility: Hylo Gel is safe to use with both hard and soft contact lenses. It is recommended to wait roughly 30 minutes after inserting your lenses before applying the drops to avoid minor physical interactions or temporary film build-up.
-
Side Effects: Adverse effects are very rare because the drops are preservative-free. Minor, temporary local irritations like burning, itching, or excessive tearing have been reported in rare instances of hypersensitivity.
-
Storage and Expiry: Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. The bottle maintains its sterility for 6 months after opening, after which any remaining solution must be discarded.
